Overview--This shop offers a LOT to see--when you walk in, you'll immediately see show cars in front of you. To the left is the CNC room, where parts are milled.  Directly behind the cars is the viewing area, where you can see work being done on cars.  To the right is the very large gift shop, as well as the receptionist and the hero card stands.  Even better, the glass partition between you and the shop has explanations of what you are seeing, something that really enhances the experience.

Ratings--
To See and Do: 5 one of the best for what you can see and explaining what you are seeing.  This shop is great both for novice fans and hardcore gear heads.

Accessibility: 5 there's a huge glass window separating the lobby from the garage, which lets you see all the way to the back. There were plenty of cars being worked on here the days I visited. Also, a bonus--the fabrication of the metal parts of the car is on display (thanks to co-owner Carl Haas' ownership of Haas CNC, a major machine tool manufacturer).

Gift Shop: 5 lots and lots to buy here for all drivers.  The back walls of the gift-shop are lined with various trophies, pictures, and souvenirs, mostly from Tony Stewart's career.

Friendliness of Staff: 4 The staff was happy to answer my questions, and otherwise left me alone.

Insider Tip:  There are numerous items that are ONLY available here at the shop.

Insider Tip:  The Haas F1 Team race shop is next door to the SHR building, but is not open to the public.

Final Verdict--See it, its how a racer designs a garage.

  1. I visted this last year and as a machine tool student learning on all HAAS CNC machines I badly wanted a tour of the machine shop....I asked the staff if I could take a tour and told them I was in school learning on those same machines luckly one of the machinist was talking to the staff at the moment and as the staff told me no the machinist asked me a few other questions and then gave my father and I a quick but great tour of the machine shop and it was impressive and clean! It is worth it to just stop and see them machining the parts!
